about the work
Fascinating portrait of the Weisshorn, the highest summit of the imperial crown of Zinal, in the Swiss Alps. In this black and white photograph, the mountain is seen from the heights of Grimentz. In the foreground, the curtain opens on the Weisshorn glacier and its impressive crevasses. Then, the Young's ridge, the most difficult access route to summit, leads our gaze between light and shadow along the Grand Gendarme. The Grand Gendarme, a bold point that wants to pierce the sky, seems to stand out from the Weisshorn, even though it is an integral part of the traverse of the famous mountain via its northern ridge. Finally, our journey leads us to the coveted summit . The hero of the picture, the Weisshorn, with its Himalayan appearance, imposes its stature. How lucky I was to be able to take this exceptional photograph of the mountain! Thus adorned with its immaculate coat, the Weisshorn reveals itself in all its splendor, sovereign of a world where nature is king. For fifteen years, I observed it, tirelessly, in the mad hope that it would reveal to me its Olympian beauty. I waited, I persevered, I never stopped going back. But I could never admire it under such a face. That day, the chance gave us an appointment. I mechanically went towards him, even though the weather forecast did not announce any major storm. Then, the miracle took place, burning and ephemeral. At the beginning of the afternoon, when the sun lit up the western face of the Weisshorn, a lenticular cloud of orographic appearance suddenly appeared on its summit. An elusive jellyfish gracing the mountain with a celestial crown. This work illustrates the extent of my quest: to achieve the portrait of the summits alpine mountains of more than 4000 meters of altitude. Freshly snowed and illuminated by a striking contrast, they reveal their soul to the viewer. My art as a vector of emotions in front of the purity and the immensity of the high mountains.
