Weissshorn
Celestial Odyssey
About the work
Our journey begins at summit of Bishorn, on the left of the picture. The high-definition work reveals the tracks of a ski tourer on the mountain's crests. An ephemeral work of art created by a reckless man braving the dangers of an unstable mountain. And yet, all it takes is for his trace to be erased and he disappears. For mountaineering owes its virtue to the spirit of the rope. When we attach ourselves to each other to reach the top together summits. We then traverse the north ridge of the Weisshorn, crossing the Grand Gendarme to reach the tip of this incredible pyramid. We then descend via the Schaligrat to the Schalijoch. In the background of the photograph, the Monte Rosa massif rises up like an ice rock, and the contours of Nordend, Dufourspitze and Parrotspitze carve out the horizon.
I took this panoramic portrait of the Weisshorn one spring afternoon. As the storm receded, the mountain appeared above the clouds, grandiose and gigantic. I love this end-of-day light, quite rare in my art, which offers a new face to summit. I love the soft tones that reveal the mountain in all its power. Nothing inspires me more than admiring these Alpine behemoths suddenly emerging from a sea of cotton, just swept by the winds and covered in snow. I watch them smoke and photograph them to immortalize their vaporous soul.
