Matterhorn
The immaculate east face
About the work
The ridge of the Hörnli stands out powerfully. The morning light underlines it, highlighting its slender trajectory to the summit. The contrast is striking: on one side, the luminous face sparkles; on the other, shadow stretches across the entire mountain.
Behind the Matterhorn, the Alps stretch as far as the eye can see. Ridges intertwine, glaciers sparkle, valleys take shape. Our gaze wanders, but always returns to the pyramid, irresistibly drawn by its perfection.
I've been photographing the Matterhorn for years, and I never tire of it. Every encounter is different, every moment reveals a new facet. Here, purity dominates. Fresh snow covers the face, the summit exudes majesty. The Matterhorn, the mountain of legend, inspires me endlessly. It's my favorite subject, my altitude companion, my timeless muse.
In this black-and-white portrait, I seek to capture the essence of the Matterhorn: the élan of a unique mountain, a symbol of the Alps, at once austere and sublime. A work that bears witness to the eternal fascination of this summit, light and mystery in unison.
