A Peak Epic at Sunrise

I took this panoramic photograph in the Bernese mountains ofOberland , Switzerland. The celestial realm of the high mountains is revealed here at dawn, when the first rays of the winter sun caress the rocks.

The view is exceptional, with summits at an altitude of over 4,000 metres. bernese alps. In the foreground is the Wetterhorn, one of the most famous mountains in the Grindelwald valley. Then the Eiger and its famous Mittellegi ridge, tearing through the mist and bursting into the light. On the left, the Finsteraarhorn, summit the highest mountain in the BerneseOberland , seems to dominate the world like a pyramid linking earth and sky. The Mönch, Schreckhorn and Lauteraarhorn are also part of the picture.

The search balance is essential in this picture. The imposing Wetterhorn gives way in the background to the Eiger and the majestic Finsteraarhorn. The sight of these stone giants enveloped in their downy clouds conveys a sense of serenity and eternity.

This shot is emotionally powerful for me. It was for the chance to capture this kind of extraordinary, timeless atmosphere that I became a mountain photographer. I love the almost unreal view of these high, glacier-studded summits peaks emerging from a flood of clouds as only a mad artist could imagine. This breathtaking landscape reminds me of the grandiose lands filmed by Peter Jackson in The Lord of the Rings. Add the music and the epic comes to life. That a moment like this can actually be experienced on our planet is incredible. The beauty that exists in this world is infinite. To observe it, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. That's what I do. I study the weather tirelessly to find that perfect moment when magic merges with nature. It only lasts a few precious seconds, because everything is constantly changing. Clouds come and go like ocean waves. Being there at the right moment allows me to bear witness to this fleeting yet spectacular moment. To bear witness to this splendor before it disappears altogether, wiped out by the disastrous consequences of climate change.
