Bisshorn
Facing the Immensity
About the work
I captured this exceptional vision the day after a winter storm. Fresh snow has just immaculately covered every relief, every ridge, revealing the complex geometry of this natural architecture. At the center of this composition stands Burnaby Point, summit unofficial, but which nevertheless peaks at 4135 meters above sea level. This peak partially hides the real summit of Bishorn which appears on its right, creating a striking play of perspective.
I like this duality that emanates from the image – on one side, on the right, the normal route from Tracuit draws its relatively gentle slopes. On the other, this northeast face reveals a parallel world, a universe of vertigo where the suspended seracs threaten to collapse at any moment. This dichotomy illustrates the complexity of the high mountains, where each summit conceals a thousand personalities depending on the angle of approach.
Through this black and white work, I wanted to convey this inaccessible grandeur, this immensity which seizes the soul in the face of such mineral masses. Bishorn reveals its true face here – not that of the gentle giant that novice mountaineers climb, but that of the glacial monster that commands respect and humility in the face of the titanic forces that have shaped our Alps.
