Facing the south face of the Grandes Jorasses, I give in to enchantment. Whymper, Walker: two bastions contemplated here from the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif. The lines overlap, intersect and intertwine like a musical score. Here, the mountain sculpts the space; there, a streak of light glides across the granite, igniting a golden glint in the heart of the ice.

The moment is unique. The wind has combed the ridges, the snow has hemmed the cornices; a light veil of cloud remains over the Grandes Jorasses, but the soft, silvery clarity is gaining ground. So I wait for the perfect moment. When suddenly, everything aligns: volumes, contrasts, Shadows and lights. I love it when nature confides in me like this, when the peaks answer each other and the light reveals the secret weave of the Grandes Jorasses. My gaze wanders from couloir to couloir, crossing ridges and lingering on routes that alpinists dream of climbing.
