Mount Gond
Unexpected beauty
About the work
I usually photograph giants over 3,000 metres, but on this particular day, Mont Gond deserved my full attention. The recent storm had completely transformed it, plastering its face with a blanket of snow that revealed every detail of its structure.
Our eyes discover the mountain's geological strata, highlighted by this fresh snow. Each layer tells the story of its formation, creating an open book spanning millions of years. Textures respond to each other: the powdery softness of the snow contrasts with the roughness of the rock, while the surrounding clouds caress the rocky flanks.
This pure ambience reveals the authentic personality of Mont Gond. Shapes are refined, contours sharpened, transforming the mountain into an imposing giant. The diffused light unifies the whole, creating a monochrome harmony where only shades of white and grey outline the landscape.
I wanted to pay tribute to these lesser-known summits that deserve our attention. In the end, beauty is measured in more than just size. In the purity of winter, Mont Gond reveals a grandeur that rivals the highest summits in the Alps.
