In this magnificent photograph, the impressive ridge of Biancograt is revealed. It leads to summit of the Pizzo Bianco, one of the most famous mountains of the Bernina range. This Alpine massif culminates above Saint-Moritz, forming the border between Switzerland and Italy.

I realized this work in spring, after the passage of one of the last storms of the cold season. Nature offered me a last chance to capture this particular winter light which reveals, by a play of light and shadow, the imposing splendor of its summits. Ephemeral beauty of rock and ice colossi, weakened every year by the harmful effects of global warming.

Black and white mountain photography must succeed in conveying the power and grandeur of summits without forcing the contrasts too much. It is about glorifying nature while respecting it. And this is the real challenge I set myself. This work invades us with emotions while mixing softness and balance of tones. It shakes us up and soothes us at the same time.

I particularly like the graphic strength that emerges from the painting. The blazing luminosity of the eastern side of the Pizzo Bianco, freshly covered with snow, and the protective shadow of its other side, which the storm has spared. An image close to abstraction and yet full of life. Two parts of the same reality. Yin and Yang of a nature which faces the chaos to better be reborn in the morning.

Beyond the clouds that envelop the mountain, I managed to capture the perfect aesthetics of the Biancograt ridge, clean and chiseled. The celestial scope of the photograph touches me greatly. This sensation of following with the eyes a path leading to the heavens. The transcendent glow of a path guiding us beyond the realm of men. Certainly one of my most beautiful pictures.
